Joaquin Castro, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas' 20th district, expressed concerns about recent actions by the U.S. Administration regarding agreements with El Salvador. On April 14, 2025, he shared a series of posts on social media addressing these issues.

In his first post on that day, Castro stated that "The Administration has admitted that they are doing this due to agreements reached with the government of El Salvador." This comment highlights the acknowledgment of the U.S. government's involvement in decisions based on international agreements.

Castro further commented on the situation, noting "The Administration is indiscriminately sending people—like Kilmar Abrego Garcia—to El Salvador’s brutal prison system. Donald Trump has openly said he wants to, and will, send U.S. citizens to El Salvador next." Here, he raised alarms about the treatment and transfer of individuals to El Salvador's penal system.

He also urged the media to hold accountable both El Salvador's leadership and former U.S. President Donald Trump. Castro stated, "President Bukele is in Washington this week. Every reporter should not let him—or Donald Trump—off the hook and demand the details of these secret agreements being used to disappear U.S. residents, without due process, into gulags." This appeal for transparency reflects his worry over the lack of public disclosure regarding these transfers.

Raised in San Antonio, Texas, Castro earned his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and later graduated with a Juris Doctor from Harvard University.
