Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district, has recently voiced strong opinions on various political matters through a series of tweets. Doggett, who replaced J. J. Pickle in 1995 and has been a vocal figure against certain policies, shared his thoughts on the economic implications of an ongoing tariff and a recent Texas Senate Bill proposal. His comments provide insight into his stance on key issues impacting both his constituents and the broader American landscape.
In a tweet dated April 3, 2025, Doggett remarked on the economic consequences of the trade war initiated by former President Donald Trump's tariff policies, stating, "With the markets in freefall from Trump's tariff trade war, the Republicans have ensured we all live in Red States now. When this tax hits consumers, more families will be pushed into the red too."
Continuing his critique on April 4, 2025, Doggett criticized Trump for his inconsistent statements on pricing affected by tariffs. He stated, "Pinocchio has nothing on Trump. After repeatedly claiming that he would lower prices on day one, now this 'stable genius' says he 'couldn’t care less' if prices go up. Another new lie is that 'tariffs are a tax cut.' The truth is, his blanket tariffs will cost the average."
Furthermore, on the same day, Doggett expressed his opposition to Texas Senate Bill 17, joining Alice Yi and Asian Texans for Justice. He argued against the bill, which restricts real estate purchases by certain noncitizens, characterizing it as an expansion of Attorney General Ken Paxton's power and a manifestation of xenophobia influenced by Trump's rhetoric. He stated, "Joining Alice Yi and Asian Texans for Justice to speak out against Texas Senate Bill 17, restricting real estate purchases by some noncitizens. Unjustifiably increasing the power of AG Ken Paxton, this is just another form of xenophobic, anti-immigrant hysteria fueled by Trump."
