Lloyd Doggett, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas's 37th district since 1995, has recently taken to social media to express his concerns about former President Donald Trump's tariff policies and their economic impacts. Doggett, who has been a vocal critic of Trump's policies, posted a series of messages on the social media platform, covering key aspects and implications of these policies.
On April 2, 2025, Doggett criticized Trump's tariff policies, stating that they financially burden American citizens and small businesses. "Liberation Day," Doggett labeled the day, when dollars are "liberated" from wallets to cover taxes resulting from these tariffs. He further alleged that these policies force some small business owners to close their operations amidst rising costs.
Continuing his critical discourse on April 3, 2025, Doggett accused Trump of undermining the economy with arbitrary tariffs policies that could prompt international backlash. "With his scheme to wreck our democracy already well underway, Trump now turns his wrecking ball to our economy," Doggett claimed, pointing to the potential global economic destabilization these tariffs may incite.
In a subsequent post, Doggett reiterated these points, highlighting disparities in Trump's imposition of tariffs. "You may have heard that Trump’s tariffs hit all nations, friend and foe alike. Not quite," Doggett observed, noting that Russia was exempt from tariffs while Ukraine was targeted. He interpreted this as a gesture favoring Russian President Vladimir Putin and proposed ceasing imports from Russia entirely.
