Congressman Tony Gonzales of Texas recently held a meeting with healthcare leaders from various levels to discuss his ongoing efforts in Congress to safeguard Medicaid and other essential healthcare programs.
Gonzales, representing Texas's 23rd district, explained his commitment: “This morning, I hosted a follow-up meeting with over 40 federal, state, and local healthcare leaders and organizations to hear their concerns and share what I’m working on in Congress to protect Medicaid. I trust the experts—cuts to critical healthcare programs like Medicaid will rip the rug out from under millions of Americans."
He emphasized the objective of constructing a budget that eliminates unnecessary spending while defending vital programs like Medicaid. "Building a budget that cuts wasteful spending and protects tried and true programs, such as Medicaid, is a top priority for me and many of my colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives. A budget that works for the people, not against them, is the end in mind we will achieve," Gonzales stated.
The meeting saw participation from senior leaders of major organizations such as the American Medical Association, American Hospital Association, National Rural Health Association, Federation of American Hospitals, American Nurses Association, Texas Association of Community Health Centers, and Texas Hospital Association, alongside local hospital leaders from South and West Texas.
Previously, in February, Gonzales spearheaded a letter to Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, advocating for a budget that curtails wasteful spending while aligning with President Trump's agenda without sacrificing essential programs vital to the American public. This initiative led to a meeting between Speaker Johnson, Gonzales, and members of the Congressional Hispanic Conference, focusing on funding priorities for key federal programs, including Medicaid.
