Spanning decades in Congress, Lloyd Doggett has been an influential figure in representing Texas' 37th district since 1995. Known for his vocal stance on economic issues, Doggett expressed concern over recent economic policies.

On April 9, 2025, Doggett criticized tariff policies attributed to former President Trump, highlighting their impact on Central Texas. He voiced that "Central Texans don't need higher prices. But Republicans are forcing you to pay more for everyday items with their support of Trump's new tariff tax. Families are already strained on their budgets from Trump’s failure to fulfill his promise to bring prices drastically down."

Continuing his critique later that day, Doggett questioned the defense of these tariffs. He stated, "How does Trump’s U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador defend the indefensible tariffs that are causing trillions of losses and crashing the markets? He doesn’t. He largely just refuses to answer my questions instead."

Doggett further elaborated on the situation in the evening with another post, observing a turnaround in Trump's tariff approach. "Trump will not listen to working families, nor scientists, nor economists, but he does listen to the crashing stock market. This stunning reversal of most of his “beautiful” tariffs offers hope to avoid the worst disasters, but the chaos, the uncertainty, destroys stability," he remarked.
