Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas' 37th district, has shared several critical observations regarding recent political developments through his social media posts. Doggett, who has been a congressman since 1995 after succeeding J.J. Pickle, has voiced concerns about actions taken by former President Donald Trump and their implications on national security and community development.
On February 18, 2025, Doggett expressed concern over Trump's policies in a tweet stating that Trump's redirection of Homeland Security resources towards mass deportation efforts could compromise public safety. He noted that this shift detracts from investigating significant threats such as drug dealers, terrorists, human traffickers, and organized crime. "Making us less safe like his firing of FBI agents, Trump diverts Homeland Security from investigating drug dealers, terrorists, human traffickers, and organized crime to mass deportation—planning to remove many who are taxpaying, hardworking residents."
Later the same day, Doggett commented on the temporary blocking of Trump's freeze on federal grants but highlighted the uncertainty it left for many communities. He also mentioned securing a $4.1 million investment for the Bergstrom Spur Trail before Trump's administration took over and pledged to continue efforts for its extension. "Although Trump's freeze on federal grants has been temporarily blocked, it has left many communities in limbo."
In another post on February 18th, Doggett criticized Senator Marco Rubio's meeting with Russian figures in Riyadh amid ongoing Russian drone attacks in Ukraine. He further criticized Trump for not addressing these aggressions with Russia. "As Marco Rubio meets with Russian criminals in Riyadh, 1/3 of Ukraine is under alert for relentless Russian drone attacks."
