Lloyd Doggett, a Representative in the U.S. Congress serving Texas' 37th district, has expressed concerns regarding the policies promoted by former President Trump and the Republican Party. Over the course of two days, Doggett shared his opinions on social media, addressing what he perceives to be detrimental actions by the Trump administration and GOP lawmakers.

On April 9, 2025, Lloyd Doggett claimed that instead of fulfilling its responsibility to protect the environment, the Trump administration has refocused the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to protect large polluters. He stated, "Instead of fulfilling its directive to protect the environment, Trump has redirected the EPA to protect big polluters, at the expense of American families' health and wealth." Doggett mentioned joining fellow Democrats in condemning this approach and called for an end to what he describes as the "#PollutersFirst agenda."

Later on the same day, Doggett criticized the Republican Party for its effect on both democracy and the economy. He commented, "Wrecking our democracy, then our economy, GOP is determined to drag America backward." He accused the GOP of indecision regarding their preferred historical era for setting American policy, alluding to Germany in 1933, the economic downturn of 1929, and the "Gilded Age" of the 19th century.

On April 10, 2025, Doggett turned his focus to the financial implications of Trump's tariffs and recent legislative actions by the House. He pointed out that because of Trump's tariffs on imported goods, costs have increased for American families. Additionally, he noted that the House GOP passed legislation allowing banks to charge higher overdraft fees, thus lifting the previously set $5 limit by the Biden administration. Doggett warned that as a result, "Americans will be paying banks about $5 billion each year."

Lloyd Doggett has served in Congress since 1995, taking over from J.J. Pickle. He has a longstanding career in politics, having previously served in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. Doggett was born in Austin, Texas, in 1946, where he currently resides. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, holding both a BA and a JD from the institution.
