On Saturday, Congressman Tony Gonzales visited El Paso, Texas, to receive updates from the Department of Defense and Border Patrol on border security efforts in the area. Biggs Army Airfield at Fort Bliss is being utilized to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement with deportation efforts under the Trump administration.
Congressman Gonzales stated, "In one week, President Trump has done more to advance our homeland security agenda than President Biden did in four years. Texas was ground zero for the border crisis. As migrants poured into our communities and overwhelmed our infrastructure, the federal government was nowhere to be found."
He further commented on the situation in El Paso: "El Paso relies on cross-border trade, commerce, and tourism, but just over a year ago, migrant crossings got so bad in El Paso that rail operations between the U.S. and Mexico were suspended so that CBP personnel could process migrants."
Gonzales expressed his view on handling immigration: "There is nothing humane about letting millions of people into our country without a plan or proper vetting—it only leads to further problems down the line. The days of chaos and lawlessness prevailing at our borders are over," he said.
He highlighted ongoing measures by stating that "1,500 troops are being deployed across the southern border, while deportation flights have resumed under the Trump administration. Fort Bliss is leading the way in these operations—it’s all hands on deck to get our country back on track."
