Today, Congressman Tony Gonzales announced the allocation of over $12 million in federal funding for border security in South and West Texas. The funds come from Operation Stonegarden, a federal grant program that supports local and state law enforcement agencies in collaboration with Border Patrol to combat human and drug smuggling.
Congressman Gonzales has been a strong advocate for this funding through his role on the House Appropriations Committee. He played a key part in securing a total of $81 million for Operation Stonegarden for Fiscal Year 2024.
"Operation Stonegarden is a lifeline for our Border Patrol Agents on the front lines who rely on law enforcement to help them curtail cartel activity and assist in border security efforts," said Congressman Tony Gonzales. "Over $12 million in grant funding was awarded to 17 counties and two tribes in South and West Texas to purchase new equipment and compensate law enforcement personnel for working long hours in the wake of the border crisis. I have fought hard to strengthen this critical grant program through my seat on the House Appropriations Committee. Keeping our communities safe requires an all-hands-on-deck approach—I look forward to seeing the results of this funding in action."
The announcement detailed allocations by county within Texas' 23rd Congressional District, highlighting the focus on enhancing local capabilities to address ongoing border challenges.
