An El Paso man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for distributing fentanyl, resulting in death or serious bodily injury.

Court documents reveal that Adrian David Perez Jr., 21, sold counterfeit M-30 pills laced with fentanyl on October 13, 2021. The recipient of the pills consumed them and was found deceased by his mother the next day. The El Paso County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that acute fentanyl toxicity was the cause of death.

In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Leon Schydlower sentenced Perez to three years of supervised release and ordered him to pay $3,800 in restitution.

"U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas made the announcement."

The Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation into this case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Phillip Countryman prosecuted the case.
