In a urgent plea to Congressional leadership, Representative Tony Gonzales of Texas warned that failure to take action to secure the southern border could lead to a point of no return. In a letter addressed to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Congressman Gonzales emphasized the gravity of the situation.

"Our southern border is in the worst state it has ever been. As the U.S. Representative for the largest border district in Congress, I do not say that lightly," wrote Congressman Gonzales. He called on all lawmakers to take emergency action to address the crisis at the border, highlighting the strain it has placed on local communities and law enforcement agencies.

"In my district specifically, local communities have no further resources to continue sustaining migrants. Their limited budgets are being drained by this crisis, and they are not being reimbursed by the federal government. Local law enforcement has engaged in countless high-speed pursuits with human smugglers, some of which have led to innocent American bystanders losing their lives," Gonzales explained.

The Congressman stressed the need for immediate action, stating, "We know what policies are needed to end this chaos, and we need to act on them now. There is no time to delay further on this issue."

The situation at the southern border has reached a critical point, with a surge in illegal border crossings and a strain on resources in border communities. The plea from Congressman Gonzales reflects the urgent need to address this crisis and protect the safety and well-being of both migrants and American citizens.

It remains to be seen how Congressional leadership will respond to this plea, but the urgency of the situation cannot be understated. The failure to act on securing the border could have dire consequences and push the situation beyond the point of no return.
