WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) has announced that over $13 million in federal funding will be allocated to border security in TX-23 through Operation Stonegarden. Operation Stonegarden is a federal grant program that supports local and state law enforcement agencies in their partnership with Border Patrol to combat human and drug smuggling.
Congressman Gonzales has been a strong advocate for increased funding for Operation Stonegarden and has successfully secured a total of $90 million for the program in Fiscal Year 2023. The significant allocation of funds to TX-23 highlights the congressman's dedication to addressing the border crisis in Texas.
"Operation Stonegarden has played a key role in helping law enforcement put a stop to cartel activity across TX-23," said Congressman Tony Gonzales. "I have fought hard to ensure this program is strengthened and am pleased to see that more than half of the 29 counties I represent will receive funding this year to combat the border crisis in Texas."
The funding will provide law enforcement officers with crucial resources to push back against illegal immigration and protect the communities they serve. Congressman Gonzales recognizes the importance of equipping officers with the necessary tools to effectively address the challenges posed by the border crisis.
In addition to securing funding for Fiscal Year 2023, Congressman Gonzales has taken further steps to bolster border security. He authored an amendment to the FY24 Homeland Security Appropriations package, which increased the total amount for Operation Stonegarden funding to $110 million. This increase in funding was authorized as part of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which Congressman Gonzales voted in favor of in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The commitment and efforts of Congressman Tony Gonzales in advocating for border security funding have not gone unnoticed. The allocation of over $13 million to TX-23 and the authorization of increased funding for Operation Stonegarden demonstrate his dedication to addressing the border crisis and ensuring the safety of communities in Texas.
With these additional resources, law enforcement agencies in TX-23 will be better equipped to combat human and drug smuggling, providing a more secure environment for residents. Congressman Gonzales continues to be a strong advocate for border security and will work tirelessly to support initiatives that protect the integrity of our nation's borders.
