Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas' 37th district, recently shared a series of tweets addressing various issues and commendations related to leadership, social services, and federal policies.

On March 14, 2025, Doggett expressed his admiration for CEO Julia Spann's leadership at the SAFE Alliance. He emphasized the importance of organizations like SAFE in supporting community well-being during challenging times. In his tweet, he acknowledged Lesley Varghese's role as President/Chief Legal Officer in bolstering these efforts. "Saluting CEO Julia Spann’s extraordinary leadership with @SAFEatx over the past decades. In these troubling times, organizations like the SAFE Alliance, with support from President/Chief Legal Officer Lesley Varghese, are all the more critical to the wellbeing of our community.…"

Later that day, Doggett criticized actions by what he referred to as "The Trump/Musk Department of Government Evisceration." He highlighted concerns about job cuts within Social Security services leading to increased wait times and reduced service quality for Americans who contribute to these benefits. Additionally, he noted threats posed by House GOP actions on Social Security's long-term stability. "The Trump/Musk Department of Government Evisceration’s firing of thousands of Social Security workers means longer waits and poorer service for hardworking Americans who paid into these benefits."

In an update posted later that evening, Doggett announced a positive development regarding federal funds previously frozen by the Trump Administration. The decision impacted resources available to Texas Office for Refugees and other community service groups such as Interfaith Texas. This funding resumption was particularly significant for over 700 refugee families in Austin who have escaped challenging circumstances abroad. "UPDATE: Trump Admin finally heeded our demand to end its totally unjustified freeze of millions in federal funds to the Texas Office for Refugees..."
