Enrollment Analysis: Asian students comprised 0.6% of East Central ISD schools' student body in 2022-23 school year

There were 59 Asian students enrolled in East Central ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 20.4% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that East Central ISD schools welcomed 10,617 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Asian students comprised 0.6% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

East Central ISD roughly covers schools within Bexar County and has a main office in San Antonio.

Among the 14 schools in East Central ISD schools, East Central High School recorded the highest enrollment of Asian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 21 students.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
