Cost of college went up for non-resident students at Palo Alto College

In-state tuition and fees fell 12.1 percent for 2018-19 at Palo Alto College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Texas residents paid $6,300 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $870 less than the $7,170 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 119.5 percent more than residents this year, or $13,830. Their price tag grew 0.4 percent from $13,770 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Texas residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 86 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 573 students received grants or scholarships totaling $3.3 million and 28 students took out student loans totaling more than $115,940.

Including all undergraduates (9,852), 3,639 students used grants or scholarships totaling $17.2 million, and 344 students took out $1.9 million in federal student loans.
