Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas' 37th district, recently made several observations through a series of tweets. Doggett is known for his political service, having succeeded the previous U.S. Congress member J. J. Pickle in 1995, and he has been an influential voice since that time.
On March 26, 2025, Doggett commented on an initiative titled "Liberation Day" by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Doggett criticized this initiative, suggesting that "Trump's April 2 'Liberation Day' is when he liberates many dollars from your wallet. In the spirit of April Fool’s Day, Trump is imposing massive new tariff taxes, raising prices, and claiming it’s good for you while the GOP continues ignoring the reality of his wrongs.".
Later that same day, Doggett addressed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted the significant toll it had taken on the American population, noting that "COVID-19 killed more than 1.2 million Americans and nearly 20 million suffer from Long COVID. After promoting dangerous conspiracy theories like horse dewormers and bleach as treatments, the new Trump response is to cut vital research funding used to find evidence-based."
In another tweet posted on March 27, 2025, Doggett mourned the passing of a friend and influential figure in Texas, expressing his sentiments about the loss by saying, "Sudden loss of a strong voice in struggle for justice and opportunity in Texas. Always good humor, good values, good messaging. Valued friend for decades, DC neighbor and later a constituent, who always made us 'Believe in Martindale.'" A photo commemorating the 150th anniversary of Martindale was shared, noting its current 160th year.
