Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas' 37th district, has recently shared his perspectives on several pressing issues via social media. Known for his political career that began in the Texas Senate in 1973, Doggett continues to voice concerns on national and international matters.
On November 19, 2024, Doggett expressed concern over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's handling of hostage situations. He stated, "More evidence of Netanyahu’s continual abandonment of the hostages. More lost lives and immense pain to the families of the hostages and to many innocents in Gaza and Lebanon."
Later that day, Doggett commented on gun violence in the United States, marking two years since a tragic shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs. He highlighted the prevalence of mass shootings this year, stating "It's been two years since a gunman with a weapon of war opened fire at Club Q in Colorado Springs, murdering five people and injuring 19 more. In 2024 alone, there have been 464 mass shootings." He attributed part of this violence to "weapons of war."
In another post from November 19, Doggett criticized an upcoming legislative effort by a GOP-led Congress. He warned against HR 9495, describing it as an attempt to empower former President Trump unfairly. Doggett stated "On Thursday, a GOP-led Congress will once again try to gift Trump unilateral power to intimidate and undermine his political opponents." The bill is opposed by over 160 organizations.
