There were 101 African American students enrolled in South San Antonio ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 3.1% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that South San Antonio ISD schools welcomed 7,872 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 1.3% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

South San Antonio ISD roughly covers schools within Bexar County and has a main office in San Antonio.

Among the 18 schools in South San Antonio ISD schools, South San Antonio High School - West Campus recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 20 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
