There were six African American students enrolled in Royal Public Schools District in the 2022-23 school year, 200% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Royal Public Schools District welcomed 192 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 3.1% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Royal Public Schools District roughly covers schools within Bexar County and has a main office in San Antonio.

Royal Academy of Excellence was the only school in the district which enrolled African American students, welcoming six students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
