Celebrate the Holidays on Houston Street

Set against the backdrop of one of the city’s most historic and charming streets, San Antonio Holidays on Houston Street kicked off November 24 and runs through January 2. The City of San Antonio, Centro San Antonio, Visit San Antonio, and Bexar County, have partnered to bring more holiday sparkle to five blocks of Houston Street (from Legacy Park to the Alamo). A free concert and movies in the park are upcoming.

Holidays on Houston Street Fun Run, Tuesday, Dec. 19, 6:30 p.m.: The City of San Antonio presents the inaugural Holidays on Houston Fun Run. The route includes Houston Street and the River Walk Museum Reach River of Lights (5K route), and Houston Street to downtown’s Travis Park (one-mile route). There are still slots available for the One Mile event. Register now to get a free snow globe light-up medal. Each participant will get two free beverages with their wristband.A free community celebration with photo ops, popcorn, face painting, and caricature drawing is open to all after the race – run participation not required. The night will end with a free Spazmatics concert.  Parking is free on Downtown Tuesdays in City-owned garages. The closest garages to Travis Park are the following:

  1. St. Mary’s Garage – 205 E. Travis St.
  2. Houston Street Garage – 111 College St.
  3. City Tower Garage – 117 W. Commerce St.

Movies in the Park

There are two more movies left in the Holidays on Houston Movie Series at Legacy Park. The movies are free and open to the public. Leashed pets, lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks are always welcome. There’s also Pinkerton’s BBQ on site and Chick-fil-A across the street. The movies begin at 7 p.m.

  • Friday, December 22: “Home Alone” 
  • Friday, December 29: “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”
Plan Ahead

Downtown San Antonio will welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors to experience holiday lights, events and festivities over the coming weeks. Visitors are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and arrive early to downtown events to avoid expected disruptions related to traffic, construction projects and parking. Take public transportation, ride-share, bike, walk, or consult a navigation and traffic app before you leave. Visit the Downtown San Antonio Know Before You Go website for more information.

Visitor Parking

The City of San Antonio offers convenient and affordable parking at its parking garages and lots. The St. Mary’s Garage (205 E. Travis St.) and the City Tower Garage (117 Commerce St.) are located just steps from the River Walk, Houston Street and Travis Park, and they generally have a large availability of public parking spaces. A map showing a full list of City-owned garages and lots can be found on the City’s SAPark website. 

Downtown Tuesday offers free parking on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. in City-owned parking facilities, and City Tower Sundays offers free parking on Sundays from 7 a.m. to midnight at the City Tower Garage (117 Commerce St.).
