SAN ANTONIO – Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, this afternoon SAPD released video from the Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on October 23, 2023, at the 2500 block of S. General McMullen. Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident.

Just after 1 am, an on-duty SAPD officer driving through an apartment complex observed a male with a handgun in his front waistband. The officer exited his patrol vehicle and called out to the male who immediately took off running through the apartment complex. The officer ran after the male and deployed his taser but was unsuccessful. As the foot pursuit continued, the male tripped and fell. The officer and the suspect struggled over the suspect’s handgun as the suspect reached towards his waistband to grab it. The officer stepped back and fired several rounds at the suspect, striking him. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. No one else was injured. A loaded firearm was located underneath the suspect.

As with all officer involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the incident.
