The City of San Antonio Mayor’s Office recently launched a council to engage young individuals in addressing climate change.
“Empowering our youth may be the single most important strategy we can take to address the climate crisis,” Mayor Ron Nirenberg said on the City of San Antonio website. “Harnessing the creativity, brain power and energy of students who live in our community means that they can help craft solutions for their future in San Antonio.”
The Mayor’s Youth Engagement Council for Climate Initiatives provides participants with tools needed to become climate advocates within their communities, according to the city’s website. Students selected for the council will participate in meetings, workshops, and virtual tours, connect with adults serving on the SA Climate Ready Climate Advisory Committees, and design and present a community-based project.
The inaugural council consists of 35 area youth from 23 schools.
