San Antonio City Manager Erik Walsh recently did a virtual presentation of the city’s proposed 2021 budget to a group of San Antonio Chamber of Commerce members, including discussion on the response to and recovery from COVID-19.
The budget isn’t just about the coronavirus, though, according to the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. The city’s priorities for 2021 include violence prevention, affordable housing, homelessness and mental health, healthy food access, education and workforce development along with human services.
While the $2.9 billion budget has decreased approximately $7.7 million from the 2020 budget, the city’s projected revenue loss for 2021 due to the economic crisis created by coronavirus restrictions is $127 million, according to the release.
The City Council will vote on the proposed budget at its Sept. 17 meeting.
