Joaquin Castro, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 20th district, shared a series of statements on his Twitter account concerning education, governance, and actions of the current administration. His tweets focus on the right of Texas residents to vote on educational vouchers and express concerns regarding governmental actions perceived as undermining constitutional values.
On April 15, 2025, Castro tweeted his opinion regarding educational policies in Texas. He voiced strong support for the involvement of Texas residents in voting on educational vouchers, emphasizing democratic participation: "They absolutely should. The people of Texas deserve to vote on vouchers. @TexasHDC".
On April 16, 2025, Castro expressed concern about governmental adherence to constitutional principles. He conveyed his view that officials made a pledge to uphold the rule of law but accused the current administration of compromising democratic structures: "Every government official who serves our country makes a commitment to uphold the rule of law and our Constitution. But this Administration is doing the opposite—slashing due process and every constitutional tenet that holds our democracy together. Any official involved in this".
Later that day, Castro criticized a proposed education policy by Governor Abbott. He argued that the voucher plan would negatively affect public school systems while failing to address several financial and access concerns in private education: "Abbott's voucher scam will harm academics and athletics in public schools yet it does NOT: • cover the cost of tuition at many private schools, • require private schools to accept your child even if you can pay the tuition, • or account for the fact that many private schools".
