The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Agency (EDA) has awarded $13 million in grants – including $1.3 million to the Southwest Trade Adjustment Assistance Center at the University of San Antonio – to 11 Trade Adjustment Assistance Centers that work with manufacturers to adjust to global competition from imports.
The 11 grants ran from $951,290 to $1.4 million, with centers in Texas and 10 other states receiving funds, according to an EDA news release.
“The Trump administration is committed to providing a level playing field for American manufacturers,” U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said. “This program provides critical technical assistance to firms to help them develop and implement projects to regain global competitiveness, expand market share, and create jobs.
In addition to working directly with affected manufacturers, the centers also assist communities dependent on those manufacturers to diversify their economies, according to the release.
