UTSA officials plan to use $350,000 from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to study the potential benefits of creating the Tricentennial Innovation Park.

The plan for the park is to “leverage the university’s key areas of research with San Antonio’s burgeoning and diverse local economy to foster a transformative ecosystem tailor-made for the 21st century,” officials said in a news release.

The effort to investigate the feasibility of the project is spearheaded by Al Salgado, assistant vice president for small business and community engagement.

“The feasibility study will seek out, promote and integrate our research with government, the private sector and various research foundations,” Salgado said. “It will provide us with the information we need for the site development, governance structure and consultants who will provide planning for the building itself.”

Stakeholders who are expected to make use of the complex include the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Air Force.
