Ross Andersen, deputy editor of The Atlantic, will present a talk about writing at the intersection of science and the arts on Monday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m. in the Whitney Humanities Center Auditorium, 53 Wall St. His talk is co-sponsored by The Franke Program in Science and the Humanities Distinguished Lecturer Series and the Poynter Fellowship in Journalism. It is free and open to the public.
Prior to becoming deputy editor at The Atlantic, Andersen worked as senior editor, where he oversaw science, technology, and health coverage. Before joining The Atlantic in 2015, he was deputy editor of Aeon Magazine in the United Kingdom. He also worked as the science editor of the Los Angeles Review of Books. At The Atlantic, Andersen has mostly focused on long-form narrative stories that combine science, philosophy, and culture. Examples of his recent work include a feature about a father and son attempting to mitigate climate change with resurrected woolly mammoths in Siberia.
The Poynter Fellowship in Journalism was established by Nelson Poynter, who received his master’s degree in 1927 from Yale. The fellowship brings to campus distinguished reporters, editors, and others who have made important contributions to the media. Among recent Poynter fellows are Kate Kelly, Robin Pogrebin, and George Takei.
