Today, Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Rep. Dan Meuser have come together in support of the Safeguarding Homes from Illegal Entry, Living, and Dwelling (SHIELD) Act. The legislation aims to address the issue of illegal immigrants squatting in American homes and make trespassing a deportable offense for them.

In light of recent events where illegal aliens have been found squatting in American homes, Congressman Tony Gonzales expressed the necessity of the SHIELD Act, stating, “Everything this border crisis touches turns to ash. The SHIELD Act will help safeguard our streets from illegal immigrants who unlawfully stay on private property.”

Congressman Dan Meuser echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the impact of the border crisis on communities across the country, “The dramatic increase in the number of illegal immigrants squatting in American homes is yet another example of how the disastrous situation at our southern border is impacting communities across the country.”

The SHIELD Act aims to deter illegal aliens from violating the homes and properties of American citizens by holding them accountable through deportation and permanent inadmissibility into the United States. Congressman Meuser emphasized the importance of addressing this issue, warning that without action, illegal immigrants will continue to exploit adverse possession laws and cause damage and suffering to homeowners.

Several other representatives have also cosponsored the SHIELD Act, showing bipartisan support for the legislation. The text of the legislation is available for review for those interested in its specifics.

The collaboration between Rep. Tony Gonzales and Rep. Dan Meuser reflects a united effort to combat the issue of squatting by illegal immigrants and protect the rights and properties of American citizens.
