State Representative Trey Wharton was appointed on Mar. 27 by Speaker Dustin Burrows to serve on the newly established House Select Committee on Health Care Affordability.

The committee is tasked with examining the factors contributing to rising health care costs in Texas and proposing solutions that aim to make care more affordable while maintaining quality. This effort comes as health care affordability remains a significant concern for many Texans.

“I am honored to be appointed to the House Select Committee on Health Care Affordability,” said Rep. Wharton. “Access to affordable, high-quality health care is one of the most important issues facing Texans today. This committee will play a critical role in identifying practical, responsible solutions that lower costs, increase transparency, and strengthen our health care system.”

The committee’s responsibilities include analyzing cost drivers, reviewing insurance market trends, and identifying barriers that prevent people from obtaining coverage. It will also focus on finding actionable solutions for patients, families, and employers across the state.

“Following a highly productive legislative session, I look forward to continuing this important work and building on our progress to deliver meaningful results for Texans,” Wharton said.

Wharton was elected as a Republican representative for Texas’s 12th House district in 2023 after replacing previous state representative Kyle Kacal according to available records.

The findings of the Select Committee are expected ahead of the 90th Texas Legislature.
