Lloyd Doggett, the U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, recently addressed several issues through a series of tweets. The topics covered key concerns affecting his constituents, from food insecurity to environmental protection and weather safety measures.
On April 21, 2025, Doggett highlighted the challenges faced by the Central Texas Food Bank, emphasizing the impact of “draconian Trump cuts” on food security. As he stated, “Serving 19,000 families, Central Texas Food Bank enjoys broad local support with volunteers and donations. But thanks to draconian Trump cuts, over 750k meals will not be delivered to children and families in need.“
In another message on the same day, he praised Pope Francis for his advocacy on environmental and societal issues. In Doggett’s words, “Pope Francis worked to protect the environment from the ravages of climate change and championed those on the margins. With humility, he was instrumental in advancing progress on inclusivity and acceptance, and more. May we all be inspired to do the most for the least among us.“
Doggett concluded his communication by addressing concerns about the National Weather Service amid severe weather conditions. His tweet expressed concern over policy changes by former President Trump, writing, “During a record-setting year of severe weather, this is hardly the time for Trump to weaken the National Weather Service. Just another of his multiple acts of wrongdoing that endanger many, including our families in central Texas.“
Lloyd Doggett, currently aged 76 and a lifelong resident of Austin, has been a vocal advocate on various issues since he took office after succeeding J. J. Pickle. With a background that includes a BA and JD from the University of Texas at Austin, Doggett has dedicated decades to public service, starting with his tenure in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985.
