There were two American Indian students enrolled in Lackland ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 33.3% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Lackland ISD schools welcomed 968 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.2% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Lackland ISD roughly covers schools within Bexar County and has a main office in San Antonio.

Virginia Allred Stacey Junior/Senior High School was the only school in the district which enrolled American Indian students, welcoming two students in the 2022-23 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
