Rep. Chip Roy Press Office has shared statements on social media following the House passage of the SAVE America Act, legislation introduced by Rep. Chip Roy of Texas’s 21st district, requiring citizenship to register to vote and mandating voter ID at polling places.

On February 12, 2026, the press office quoted The Daily Signal and Rep. Roy: “.@DailySignal: ‘Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, who introduced the bill in the House, said of the bill before its passage, ‘This is commonsense legislation. It will require citizenship to register to vote, and it will require voter ID at the polls. This is an issue that polls at”.

Later that day, Rep. Roy spoke at a press conference following the bill’s passage: “The American people want a sovereign nation. They understand that voter ID is common sense to vote. They want only American citizens to vote in American elections, and this legislation does that.”

In another post on February 12, Rep. Roy referenced Senate support for his bill: “@SenMikeLee has been reporting out that he has 48 Republicans that are now signed on to the SAVE America Act, which is SAVE plus Voter ID that the House just passed.

That means there are five Republicans who are not on it yet, only two of whom have publicly come out”.

Chip Roy has represented Texas’s 21st congressional district since replacing Lamar Smith in 2019 and has won several consecutive general elections since then—most recently defeating Kristin Hook in 2024 with approximately 61.9% of the vote (Fact 1). In previous years he defeated Claudia Zapata in 2022 (62.8%), Wendy Davis in 2020 (52%), and Joseph Kopser in 2018 (50.2%) (Facts 2-4). His tenure began after succeeding Lamar Smith as U.S. Representative for Texas’s 21st District (Facts 5-6).
