Rep. Chip Roy, currently serving as the U.S. Congressman for Texas’ 21st district, used his press office’s social media account to comment on government financial surveillance and border policy in a series of tweets on July 16, 2025.

In an interview about the GENIUS Act with Glenn Beck, Roy emphasized concerns over privacy and government oversight. On July 16, 2025, he stated: “We believe a line in the sand is that we’ve got to have an emphatic statement from the government of the United States that the government is not going to be tracking your money… This is a country that’s supposed to embrace freedom.”

He also addressed supporters of cryptocurrency in another post from the same day, writing: “If the crypto bros want to be able to do all this stuff, they need to back us up to defend freedom.”

Later that evening, Roy commented on U.S. Customs and Border Protection activities: “YET AGAIN, @CBP DID NOT release a SINGLE ALIEN into the U.S. last month. June 2024: 27,766 June 2025: 0 Congress has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pass legislation to keep President Trump’s SUCCESSFUL border policies. Let’s get to work.”

Chip Roy has represented Texas’s 21st District since 2019 after replacing Lamar Smith. Born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1972 and now residing in Austin, Roy holds degrees from both the University of Virginia and University of Texas-Austin.
