Lloyd Doggett, a current member of U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, which he has served since 1995, expressed critical views on recent political actions. Doggett, who initially replaced J. J. Pickle in 1995, shared his thoughts across several tweets questioning decisions made by political leaders.

On April 18, 2025, Doggett addressed the influence of an out-of-state billionaire on Texas politics, highlighting Governor Abbott’s actions. In his view, “After taking $10M from an out-of-state billionaire to target anti-voucher Republicans and refusing to permit Texans to vote on his scheme, Abbott couldn’t prevail without Trump. That’s not leadership or strength—it’s contempt for Texas voters, educators, students, and parents”.

Additionally, on the same date, Doggett criticized former President Trump regarding AmeriCorps employees. He stated, “Wrecking yet another valued initiative, Trump, through DOGE, ordered 75% of full-time AmeriCorps employees not to return to work. Trump is ruining what for decades has been a win/win for America.” This tweet highlights a significant reduction in workforce participation.

Finally, Doggett expressed his disapproval of Trump’s immigration measures in another post. On April 18, Doggett noted, “Trump is reportedly preparing to disappear about another 200 immigrants to El Salvador without offering evidence to justify their deportation. Families cruelly torn apart as loved ones are snatched. This unlawful cruelty must not stand.” This emphasizes his concerns about deportation procedures and their impact on families.

Lloyd Doggett, born in Austin, Texas in 1946, has lived in Austin throughout his life. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned both his BA and JD degrees.
