Lloyd Doggett, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, has taken to social media to voice his concerns about current political issues. With a career in politics dating back to his time in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985, Doggett is known for his outspoken views and advocacy on various legislative matters.
On May 20, 2025, Lloyd Doggett emphasized the importance of sharing credible information with friends and family who may distrust mainstream news outlets. He pointed out that “recent polling indicates that many Americans simply are unaware of what Trump is doing, but if made aware, his approval rating would be much worse.”
Later that day, Doggett addressed an incident involving Rep. LaMonica McIver, highlighting what he described as “more Trump intimidation—this time trumped up charges directed at my colleague @RepLaMonica as she peacefully exercised her Congressional authority to assure humane treatment of detainees at a facility in her district.” He defended McIver’s actions as part of her oversight responsibilities.
In another post on the same day, Doggett criticized House Republicans for their stance on health care policy. He stated that “nearly 14 million Americans are about to lose access to a family physician because House Republicans insist upon more tax breaks for Elon Musk and other billionaires.” This came after Republicans voted down his amendment aimed at addressing healthcare access issues.
Doggett has been serving Texas’ 37th district since replacing J.J. Pickle in Congress in 1995. Born in Austin, Texas in 1946, he completed both his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Texas at Austin.
