Lloyd Doggett, a seasoned legislator currently representing Texas’ 37th district in the U.S. Congress, has shared a series of insights on his Twitter account. Doggett’s political tenure began when he succeeded J.J. Pickle in 1995. He has voiced concerns on several pressing issues, particularly those pertaining to education, postal services, and healthcare.

On April 17, 2025, Doggett criticized Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick’s actions relating to the University of Texas. He expressed concern about Patrick’s approach to education, describing it as aligned with “Trump’s fascist playbook.” Doggett wrote “Dan Patrick’s attack on UT is a page out of Trump’s fascist playbook—silencing educators and banning the exchange of ideas. For Republicans, it’s not about protecting students; it’s about controlling what they learn in order to manipulate voters with their alternative facts and https://t.co/ntiBpNG8rv”.

Later that day, Doggett showed support for U.S. Postal Service workers. On April 17, 2025, he tweeted his opposition to efforts by figures such as Trump and Musk to privatize the USPS. Doggett emphasized the reliability of postal workers, noting “Our Letter Carriers come through in all kinds of weather—both natural and political. Joining @NALC_National Letter Carriers from Austin and across Texas, including Les Doss, Billy Moody, Luis Palacios, and Cesar Hernandez in opposing Trump/Musk plans to privatize USPS. https://t.co/xlVHwwRmtc”.

On the following day, April 18, 2025, Doggett addressed the issue of Medicaid and its significance for nursing home residents. Expressing concern over proposed Medicaid cuts, he highlighted the dependency of nursing home residents on this service. Doggett urged political action by stating, “About two-thirds of nursing home residents receive care because of Medicaid. I continue to hear from Austinites with no means or family members to rely on if Republicans fulfill their plan to cut Medicaid. Tell the GOP to keep their #HandsOff this critical health program”.

Lloyd Doggett, who was born in 1946 and resides in Austin, has been a vocal advocate in Congress since 1995. Before his congressional career, he served in the Texas Senate for over a decade and is an alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin, receiving both his BA and JD there.
