Lloyd Doggett, a congressman representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, has made his voice heard through a series of tweets that address various pressing issues. Known for his long-standing service in the legislative arena, Doggett spoke on matters ranging from national security to health concerns in the United States.
On April 22, 2025, Doggett shared his concerns regarding Pete Hegseth: “Unsurprisingly, after running two nonprofits into the ground, Pete Hegseth proves himself wildly unfit to oversee our national security. Amidst news of a second Signal chat, screaming matches in his inner office, and forcing Afghanistan veterans to prove their “patriotism,””.
Later that day, Doggett turned his attention to conspiracy theories, criticizing proposals by RKF Jr., saying, “Autism does not destroy lives, but RKF Jr’s conspiracy theories and insults do. Now, he wants to create a registry of Americans with autism—pulling from a 1939 Nazi playbook.”
Continuing his advocacy, Doggett addressed the impact of GOP funding cuts on Alzheimer’s research on April 23, 2025. He stated, “For the nearly 7M Americans afflicted w/Alzheimer’s, federally-funded medical research gives hope that cherished memories will not fade there will be many more years to celebrate birthdays, marriages & more. GOP funding cuts are ripping that hope away.”
Doggett, born in Austin, Texas, in 1946, has a storied history in politics, having served in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. He graduated with a BA and a JD from the University of Texas at Austin.
