Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, has been vocal on various political issues through his social media presence. Born in Austin, Texas in 1946, Doggett graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with both a BA and JD before embarking on his political career, which includes serving in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985.
On May 6, 2025, Doggett expressed his support for Women for Good Government led by Mary Patrick. He described their meeting as a “candid discussion of the tremendous harm inflicted by Trump and his gang,” highlighting recent signs of hope and encouraging continued activism. “Great to join Women for Good Government, led by my friend Mary Patrick…”
Later that day, Doggett criticized the Trump administration’s budget proposal, warning that it would undermine America’s leadership in innovation. He stated that health funds would be significantly reduced under this budget plan, leading to “fewer treatments and cures” and exacerbating public health crises. “Under the Trump budget, America will no longer be a leader in innovation.”
In another tweet on May 6th, Doggett addressed Republican proposals to cut Medicaid funding. He argued that such actions would severely impact children’s futures across the nation. “When Republicans talk about cutting Medicaid…”
Doggett has served in Congress since replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995 and continues to reside in Austin.
