Lloyd Doggett, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, has been vocal on various political issues through his social media presence. In a series of tweets, Doggett addresses topics ranging from foreign policy to domestic matters under the administration of former President Donald Trump.
On June 19, 2025, Doggett expressed concern about Trump’s authority regarding military actions against Iran. He stated “Trump has no constitutional authority to attack Iran without pre-approval by Congress. Dropping the big one will only bring us big trouble and make American families less safe.” This tweet underscores his apprehension about potential unilateral military actions and their implications for national security.
Later that day, Doggett commented on Trump’s brief pause in immigration enforcement actions. He noted “Trump’s willingness to accept reality over political hysteria lasted for only 4 days.” Criticizing Trump’s return to stricter policies after initially halting ICE raids, he suggested that these decisions were influenced by extremist factions.
The following day, June 20, Doggett highlighted the psychological impact of current events on younger generations. He remarked “Anxiety, fear, and stress are burdening our children and young adults as they witness one catastrophe after another…” Mentioning discussions with his daughter Lisa and granddaughter Clara, he reflected on how leadership styles relying on fear can affect youth development.
Lloyd Doggett continues to serve in Congress since succeeding J.J. Pickle in 1995. Born in Austin in 1946 and educated at the University of Texas at Austin, he remains an active voice on national issues.
