Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, shared several insights on social media recently. With a background in law and politics, Doggett has been an active voice in various issues ranging from environmental advocacy to political ethics.
On May 15, 2025, Doggett highlighted his commitment to promoting cycling infrastructure as part of the Congressional Bike Caucus. He mentioned that two of his staffers participated in #BikeToWorkDay, reducing car usage in Washington, DC. “Two fewer cars on the streets of Washington, DC as my staffers Jillian and Mark participate in #BikeToWorkDay.” He emphasized the benefits of biking for both health and the environment.
The following day, May 16, 2025, Doggett criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to ethics rules. In his view, these rules have become merely symbolic under Trump’s influence. “With Trump, ethics rules have become purely decorative.” He expressed concern over financial transactions involving meme coins and gifts from foreign entities like Qatar.
Later on May 16, 2025, Doggett voiced opposition to a Republican legislative proposal he referred to as the “Big Beautiful Bill.” According to him, this bill includes provisions that would significantly increase national debt while benefiting special interests and wealthy individuals at the expense of essential services like healthcare. “Republicans’ ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ is full of ugly details: Trillions in added debt…” As part of House Budget Democrats, he is actively working against what he describes as a scheme favoring the wealthiest.
Lloyd Doggett was born in Austin, Texas in 1946 and has served Texas’s 37th District since replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995. Prior to Congress, he served in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. He holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
