Lloyd Doggett, a seasoned member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, has recently expressed his views on various political issues through social media. Born in Austin, Texas in 1946, Doggett has a long history of public service, including his tenure in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985.
On May 14, 2025, Doggett criticized former President Donald Trump’s decision regarding Afghan allies. He stated, “The same day Trump welcomed white South Africans, he disgracefully ended protections for Afghans who worked side-by-side with our troops for decades, including some I helped resettle in Austin. Trump’s thanks for their valuable service is to deport them to the Taliban.”
Later that day, Doggett addressed fiscal policy matters by highlighting Republican opposition to his proposed amendment concerning tax legislation. He noted that “The Republicans all voted against my amendment to put a limit on the GOP tax bill that explodes the debt – if you earn above $400,000 a year, then we would not extend the benefits in the GOP tax bill to you.” This statement reflects his stance on equitable taxation and fiscal responsibility.
On May 15, 2025, Doggett continued his critique of Republican policies by discussing an educational funding issue within the GOP’s tax bill. He commented on what he described as a “voucher scheme,” saying “Among the many horrors, Republicans snuck a $20 billion voucher scheme into their tax bill—despite voters rejecting such plans every time they’ve been on the ballot.” His opposition stems from concerns about defunding public schools and redirecting resources away from them.
