Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, used his social media platform on April 2, 2026, to criticize former President Donald Trump’s recent address and policies while also discussing a range of political issues.
In a post dated April 2, 2026, Doggett questioned the credibility of Trump’s statements about the economy in relation to the ongoing conflict in Iran. He wrote: “Hard to say what was the biggest whopper in Trump’s desperate address attempting to justify his reckless war in Iran. But I think the winner is his declaration that under his great leadership ‘no inflation’ in America. When you shop this week, you can be the judge of his”.
Later that day, Doggett highlighted his participation in a podcast hosted by Rep. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin. In his tweet from April 2, he stated: “Joined a podcast for my friend @RepMarkPocan, a great progressive, who represents Madison, Wisconsin. We discuss health care, tax inequities, the reckless Trump war in Iran, and a number of other issues.”
Addressing election integrity concerns on April 2 as well, Doggett commented on actions taken by Trump regarding mail-in voting access: “Trump’s shenanigans to undermine our upcoming elections continue. Though defending his personal use of mail in voting, he just signed a new order limiting access to a mail ballot. His goal is to prevent as many as possible from voting.”
Doggett has been an active figure in Congress for decades after replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995 and previously serving in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. Born in Austin in 1946 and currently residing there at age 76, Doggett holds both undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
He recently secured re-election victories over Jenny Garcia Sharon both in 2024 and 2022 with significant margins.
