Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, posted a series of tweets on March 10 and 11, 2026, criticizing former President Donald Trump’s policies on tariffs and foreign affairs.
On March 10, Doggett commented on recent legal developments regarding tariffs imposed during the Trump administration: “Trump loses once again on his phony claim that only foreign countries pay his tariff taxes. Later that day, Doggett addressed the ongoing military conflict under Trump’s leadership: “The true cost of Trump’s unnecessary war is felt by those who suffer and their families. The casualty and wounded count will grow substantially if Trump deploys ground troops, an option he refuses to rule out. Meanwhile, the monetary cost to taxpayers will continue for years as”.
On March 11, Doggett referenced comments from Jake Sullivan regarding international consequences of U.S. actions: “Excellent summary by Biden’s former national security advisor Jake Sullivan regarding how Trump’s unjustified war with Iran is helping his pal Putin in so many ways. Doggett has been an active member of Congress since replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995 and previously served in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. He was born in Austin, Texas in 1946 and continues to reside there at age 76. Doggett holds both a BA (1967) and JD (1970) from the University of Texas at Austin.
In recent elections, Doggett defeated Jenny Garcia Sharon twice—winning over 74% of votes in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections.
