Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district, has recently used his social media platform to address several national and international issues, including media independence, economic policy, and border security.
On March 30, 2026, Doggett commented on the status of Voice of America under former President Donald Trump: “The Voice of America has long been the voice of our country to the world, offering objective independent journalism that could be trusted. Trump, of course, insists that it be used only for propaganda and self-promotion. Last year, he fired a thousand employees and threatened https://t.co/dZY2kXU0vH”.
Later that day, Doggett addressed rising consumer costs in connection with Trump’s policies: “After repeatedly promising to bring prices down, Trump has done just the opposite. First his tariff taxes, now his reckless war with Iran and the rising price of gas. A new report by The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) estimates that even more pain”.
On March 31, 2026, Doggett highlighted environmental concerns related to border security measures in Texas: “I led Texas Democrats in demanding DHS abandon Big Bend’s border wall. The rugged terrain already deters crossings; a wall would only choke wildlife and trigger flash floods. We cannot let taxpayer dollars destroy one of America’s crown jewels for a barrier that isn’t needed.”
Doggett has represented Texas’s 37th District in Congress since 1995 after succeeding J.J. Pickle and previously served in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. He is an Austin native who earned both his BA and JD from the University of Texas at Austin.
