Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 37th district, used his social media platform last week and over the weekend to comment on President Trump’s ongoing military campaign in Iran. In a series of posts, Doggett criticized the conduct and consequences of what he described as “Trump’s war,” now entering its sixth week.On April 3, Doggett addressed the continuing conflict by stating:
“Last week, I spoke again about Trump continuing his reckless war into a second month with more death & destruction, a depleted weapons stockpile, a bill for $200B, soaring gas prices, and a repressive Iranian regime still intact and more hardline than ever.”Later that day, Doggett commented on an incident involving U.S. military personnel:
“Trump’s exaggerated claims were insufficient to protect the fighter jet shot down today over Iran. Thankfully one crew member rescued and praying for the safety of the other. Our American servicemembers continue to do their jobs as Trump and Hegseth fail in doing theirs.”The following day, Doggett highlighted perspectives from former defense officials:
“Great insight from two former Defense Secretaries — Chuck Hagel and Leon Panetta — a position that was once known for valued insight. Now we have Hegseth, only known for his arrogance. As we enter week 6 of Trump’s war with Iran, objectives remain unclear and lies are”Doggett has represented Texas’s 37th District in Congress since 1995 after previously serving in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. He succeeded J.J. Pickle in Congress and is noted for his longstanding political career rooted in Austin, Texas.

Born in Austin in 1946 and educated at the University of Texas at Austin where he earned both undergraduate and law degrees,
Doggett graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1967 with a BA. He also earned a JD from the University of Texas at Austin in 1970.
Doggett has been repeatedly re-elected by wide margins; most recently defeating Jenny Garcia Sharon with over seventy percent of the vote.
In 2024, Lloyd Doggett defeated Jenny Garcia Sharon in the general election, winning 252 (74.2%) to 59 (23.6%).
His recent comments reflect concerns about U.S. policy toward Iran under President Trump’s administration.
