Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, recently shared several statements on social media regarding political and community issues. Doggett, who has been a part of the legislative body since replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995, expressed concerns over recent actions by the Trump Administration and highlighted his engagement with local communities.
On June 1, 2025, Doggett criticized the Trump Administration for allegedly using intimidation tactics against Congress. He stated that “In another attempt to intimidate Congress, the Trump Admin handcuffed a staff member for my friend @RepJerryNadler while forcing a search of his district office without a warrant or just cause.” He further mentioned that this incident follows “bogus charges” against another representative involved in oversight activities.
Later that day, Doggett expressed pride in his role as Vice-Chair of the Equality Caucus and his representation of Austin’s LGBTQI+ community in Congress. He wrote on social media about beginning Pride Month with discussions alongside Austin LGBT Chamber leaders to address economic issues intertwined with diversity and respect. He noted “I am pleased to represent Austin’s LGBTQI+ community in Congress… We celebrate decades of…”
On June 2, 2025, Doggett engaged with Asian American entrepreneurs concerning business challenges stemming from tariffs imposed during Trump’s presidency. The meeting included discussions on various business issues affecting their contributions to both local communities and the country at large. He remarked that it was “Especially good to be joined by my friend Jimmy Ferguson.”
With roots deeply embedded in Austin where he was born in 1946 and educated at the University of Texas at Austin (BA ’67; JD ’70), Lloyd Doggett continues to play an active role in legislative matters affecting both local constituents and broader national interests.
