Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 37th district and a long-serving member of Congress since 1995, published a series of tweets on March 26, 2026, criticizing the Trump administration and Republican lawmakers regarding foreign policy decisions and fiscal management.
In his first post at 15:54 UTC, Doggett referenced the business dealings of former President Donald Trump’s family, stating: “All in the family—more inside deals than any presidential family in American history. Trump’s son-in-law may be better described as ‘profiteer’ than ‘peace envoy.'”
Later that day at 17:36 UTC, Doggett addressed Republican handling of the national debt and their relationship with the Trump administration. He wrote: “Republicans love to talk about the debt, but all they do is spike it. Today they are holding a secret meeting with Trump regime on how to force through the first installment on financing his reckless war –borrowing another $200 billion. Republicans refuse to hold a single”.
At 19:00 UTC, Doggett commented on international developments involving Russia and Iran, accusing former President Trump of shifting military resources away from Ukraine and easing sanctions on both Russia and Iran. He stated: “Now as Putin shares intelligence and ships drones to the Iranians to target American troops, Trump is apparently diverting missiles designated for defending Ukrainian civilians to continue his endless war in Iran. By lifting oil sanctions on both Russia and Iran—Trump is”.
Doggett has represented Texas’s 37th congressional district since its creation after previously serving in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. Born in Austin in 1946, he continues to reside there today. Doggett holds both a BA (1967) and JD (1970) from the University of Texas at Austin. In recent elections, he secured significant victories over Jenny Garcia Sharon in both 2022 and 2024 general elections.
