Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, has recently used his social media platform to criticize actions taken by former President Donald Trump’s administration. In a series of posts on February 12 and 13, Doggett addressed concerns about environmental policy, international oil deals, and domestic transportation decisions.
On February 12, Doggett expressed concern over the Trump administration’s approach to climate policy: “Trump’s repealing the endangerment finding endangers us all. He denies the obvious—we are already seeing and feeling the climate crisis. Summers are hotter and longer each year. Tropical diseases and deadly storms–floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes— are all becoming more”.
Later that day, he criticized a deal involving Venezuelan oil: “Trump’s Venezuelan oil deal continues to reek of waste, fraud, and abuse. He handed $500M of Venezuelan oil to two companies with a history of bribery in South America. And these companies deposit their oil payments into a Qatari bank account, where it is dispersed to Trump and”.
On February 13, Doggett commented on an airport closure in Texas: “The Trump regime’s unprecedented shutting down of the El Paso airport for an announced period of 10 days is yet another indication of its total incompetence. No coordination with local government, hospitals, or anyone else. Totally unjustified; fortunately rescinded.”
Doggett has served in Congress since replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995 and previously held office in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. He represents Texas’ 37th district after winning reelection against Jenny Garcia Sharon in both the 2022 (76.8% to 21%) and 2024 (74.2% to 23.6%) general elections ([source](https://ballotpedia.org/Lloyd_Doggett)). Born in Austin in 1946, Doggett graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with both a BA (1967) and JD (1970).
