Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, criticized recent federal actions and raised local concerns in a series of posts on July 16, 2025.
In one post, Doggett addressed the dismissal of State Department employees under the Trump administration: “Trump and Rubio’s firing of over 1,300 State Department employees weakens America and empowers China and Russia.
With the Human Rights Bureau hollowed, this Administration is greenlighting authoritarians to lock up journalists, arrest activists, and abuse civic space. Diplomats” (July 16, 2025).
Later that day, he commented on staffing issues at Austin’s airport: “Austin’s air traffic control tower is operating with LESS THAN HALF the required number of certified air traffic controllers.
It’s unacceptable, and I continue to push the FAA to prioritize our airport for more hiring recruits and transfers to ensure our skies are safe during https://t.co/A5BASFAzfG” (July 16, 2025).
Doggett also criticized spending decisions by former President Trump: “Trump would rather waste $130,000 in taxpayer dollars to set fire to 500 tons of food than feed 1.5 million children. https://t.co/Wo9hTVpfwu” (July 16, 2025).
Doggett has served in Congress since replacing J. J. Pickle in 1995 after previously serving in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. Born in Austin in 1946 and currently residing there at age 76, Doggett graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in 1967 and a JD in 1970.
