Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district and longtime Austin resident, posted a series of statements on April 2, 2026, addressing economic and public safety concerns related to federal policy and local infrastructure.

Later that day, Doggett addressed issues with air traffic control staffing in Austin: “Understaffed air traffic control towers are a public safety issue in many parts of the country, but especially here in Austin. After years of sounding the alarms about Austin’s lack of air traffic controllers, we still have only half the number of certified workers that the FAA”
Doggett has represented Texas’s 37th District in Congress since 1995 after previously serving in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. He is an alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin and has lived most of his life in Austin. In recent elections, he won re-election by significant margins against Jenny Garcia Sharon—securing over 74% of votes in 2024 and nearly 77% in 2022.
